Maui News: George Kahumoku Jr. and friends captured another Hawaiian music Grammy Award for their "Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar, Volume 2" album, which features several Maui musicians. The award was announced Sunday afternoon (Jan 31, 2010) at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards pre-telecast ceremony in Los Angeles...

Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar -Vol 2In this fifth compilation of live music, it is our great pleasure to present music by many of Hawaii’s finest slack key artists: George Kahumoku Jr, Dennis Kamakahi, Sonny Lim, Keoki Kahumoku, Owana Salazar, Kawika Kahiapo, Jeff Peterson, and Daniel Ho.

Includes bonus performances by up and coming young players, plus leo ki’eki’e (Hawaiian falsetto) by  Uncle Richard Ho’opi’i. Another included treat features Hawaiian steel guitar by master, Bobby Ingano.

After hectic years of mainland touring, George has returned to Maui to settle down and teach Art at Lahainaluna High School. Nancy has returned with him in Maui. George will continue to play for special events some evenings and weekends, and give private guitar lessons at his Maui home. He will still tour the mainland giving concerts and workshops in the Summertime and over Spring Break.
